From 19 to 23 March, Singer Vehicle Design from Los Angeles presented its new 911 DLS (Dynamics and Lightweighting Study) to a total of 400 customers, media representatives and car enthusiasts at the premises of the Weinstadt design and technology service provider. After the world premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last summer and the fair presentations in Los Angeles and Geneva, the Porsche 911 DLS “reimagined by Singer” celebrated its German debut in the newly built “Premium Manufaktur” by KUSSMAUL. And not only that: The tuner of 911 sports car type 964 also exhibited the model “Lauf” with German road approval at KUSSMAUL at the same time.
In 2019, Singer will produce 75 vehicles from the DLS in a limited series. The price per sports car is around 2 million US dollars. Singer also receives some of the 964’s 964 964 964 chassis, of which more than 63,000 units were produced at Porsche’s main plant in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen between 1988 and 1994, from its customers. True to the motto “old school – but new technique”, the old form is polished up and rebuilt according to customer requirements and equipped with the latest technology.
The production of the 911 DLS takes place in England at Williams Advanced Engineering, a division of the Formula 1 racing team. Bernd Kußmaul GmbH received the order to manufacture all metal interior and decorative parts last year; these include the five round instruments typical of Porsche, but also door trim strips, fuel filler caps, steering wheel, gears, handbrake and rims. The parts are mainly milled from aluminium, then polished by hand and under a microscope for up to ten hours and then anodised in natural or black. In addition there are magnesium, leather, wood and carbon components. The total volume for the 75 vehicles is around 22,000 parts.
